US domestic carrier Horizon Line on Tuesday announced that it will add a Jacksonville call to its southbound service between Houston and San Juan, one of several shuttles which the shipping line operates between the US-American mainland and Puerto Rico. The revised rotation will take effect on 7 June.

Despite the addition, the service will continue to operate on a 14-day roundtrip timetable. The schedule enhancement will offer shippers an extra Tuesday sailing every other week from Jacksonville to San Juan.

Horizon underlines that, since it is a Jones-Act carrier entiled to carry cargo between USA ports, the addition not only offers enhanced coverage of San Juan, but also creates a new connection between Houston and destinations along the Eastern Seaboard.

The fortnightly service from Jacksonville comes on top the weekly sailings already offered by the carrier’s Jacksonville to San Juan shuttle.
