Maersk Line has started to take slots on the Panama to North Coast of South America service, operated jointly by Evergreen (‘CAS’) and X-Press Feeders (‘PVX’). The loop links the Panama Canal’s Atlantic hub of Manzanillo to Willemstad (Curacao), La Guaira, Puerto Cabello and Cartagena.
The Danish carrier will however limit its participation to Cartagena and La Guaira. Maersk’s new slot allocation comes as Hamburg Süd’s ‘Aztec’ service, on which Maersk also slots, drops the present La Guaira call. While Maersk will maintain its participation on the ‘Aztec’, La Guaira is now served – among others – via the ‘CAS’ / ‘PVX’ arrangement. By means of transhipment at Cartagena, Maersk can connect its new offer to its network along the East Coast of the Americas.
Only recently, the carrier’s ‘SAEX’ was extended to Colombia. The service now offers weekly links from Cartagena to the USEC.
