The Norwegian non-operating ship owner Klaveness Maritime has taken delivery of the 2,504 teu vessel BALLENITA, the second of four mid-sized container ships ordered in September 2010 at the Chinese Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
The BALLENITA appears to have been chartered by Zim, or respectively Zim’s Hong Kong-based affiliate Gold Star Line and she will phase into the carrier’s ‘FAX’ Far East to West Africa service.
Klaveness is to receive one further ship of the type in this year and one more in 2014, to be named BALSA and BALEARES. Deliveries of all four sisters of the type have been deferred by some months.
The BALLENITA carries the name of a coastal city in Ecuador, the name of which is in turn derived from the cities heritage in whaling.
