The non-operating shipowner Lomar Corporation has added one more 2,190 teu vessel from China’s Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard to its newbuilding pipeline. Lomar therewith firmed up one of two options it signed in May 2012, when it placed two orders for ships of the type. At the same time, Lomar appears to have signed one more option, so that its pipeline for ships of the SDARI-designed 2,190 teu series now stands at three firm orders plus two options.
The first two ships, BARRY TRADER and KIMOLOS TRADER are due in 2014, while the third ship, QUEEN ESTHER, is slated for delivery in 2015.
The London-based Lomar Corporation is a subsidiary of the Libra Group, a privately owned international business group created in 2003. Libra is predominantly focused on five core sectors: shipping, aviation, real estate, hospitality and energy.
In addition to a fairly large fleet of mid-sized second-hand ships and the 3+2 orders at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard, Lomar also has 2+4 SDARI-designed ships of 1,100 teu on order at Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
