Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has delivered the 2,824 teu KMTC SHENZHEN, the second unit of a pair of identical ships that the Korea Marine Transport Company ordered in May 2011 at the South Korean yard. Both ships are examples of the very popular Mipo 2800 type of which no fewer than 64 ships have been built since 2002 and both are examples of the more recent ‘MK-II’ variant of the design, which features, among others, a different type of main engine.
The ship follows three months after the first unit, which was handed over in March as KMTC NINGBO. She also follows her earlier sister in terms of deployment and is scheduled to join KMTC’s standalone Korea to Malaysia service ‘MSK’, where she will replace the charter vessel KAYA. This 2,824 teu ship, also Mipo 2800 type, has already found a new charterer with Pacific International Lines.
