Already in May, CMA CGM and Delmas have dropped calls at Valencia and Algeciras from ther western Med to northwest Africa relay service Battuta Nord. This follows an earlier decision in March to take Banjul (Gambia) off the loop.
With the loop now truncated at both its northern and southern end, the two carriers were able to shorten the round trip time of the service from three to two weeks and shed one of the three ships, the 1,709 teu NORTHERN HAPPINESS.
Since May, the revised Battuta Nord now turns: Tanger Med, Nouakchott, Casablanca, Tanger Med. Banjul remains covered by the French carrier, as the port is now served on the Battuta South, the Battuta North’s complimentary ‘sister service’.
