PELICAN (1,805 teu) delivered, joins Yang Ming

CSBC’s Keelung shipyard this week delivered the container vessel PELICAN, the second of two 1,805 teu sisters for XT Management, formerly known as Ofer Shipmanagement.

The ship follows the KESTREL, which CSBC handed over in early May.

The eleven-row wide 172m ship is a sister vessel of the WAN HAI 270 series, although with a lower-rated MAN B&W 6S60 MC-C MK8.1 engine compared to the seven-cylinder variant of the same type installed on the Wan Hai vessels.

XT Management has chartered the PELICAN to Yang Ming Line, who deployed the ship to their ‘JTC’ Japan-Thailand service. On the loop, the new vessel will replace the slightly smaller YM EARTH which Yang Ming had on a ten-year charter from Japanses owners and which was recently sold to SITC.

Quite fittingly, the PELICAN is named after a genus of large water birds comprising the family Pelecanidae. Both of the XT twins thus carry avian names.
