The small UAE-based specialist carrier MAG Container Lines recently acquired four identical sister ships to upgrade its intra-Middle East Gulf services. Already in March, the shipping line bought four gearless container-friendly 300 teu multipurpose vessels of the Netherlands-built Conofeeder 300 type.
The vessels were built in 1998 and 1999 by the Dutch yards Niesten Sander of Delfzijl and Tille Scheepsbouw of Koostertille. The 93m long and 15.85m wide ships have a commercial speed of up to 15 knots and provide electricity for up to 50 reefer containers.
MAG Container Lines renamed the ships MAG EXCELLENCE, MAG BRIDE, MAG PEARL and AL HUSSEIN. After a refit and drydock, the second-hand vessels now gradually phase into the shipping line’s Iraq-focused intra-Middle East Gulf network, where they will replace ships of half their container capacity. So far, MAG operated a mix of various small mpp vessels, including deckships and landing craft.
