Evergreen and Yang Ming will shortly announce the opening of a new China-Australia-Taiwan service, to be branded ‘CAT’.
The ‘CAT’ service will turn in six weeks on the following rotation: Ningbo, Shanghai, Shekou, Kaohsiung, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Kaohsiung, Ningbo.
The new wekly service will deploy a fleet of six panamax-beam vessels in the size range of about 4,250 teu to 4,550 teu. Its inaugural sailing will be performed by the 4,553 teu YM OAKLAND, which is scheduled to depart Ningbo for Australia on 6 June.
Further to the two Taiwanese lines, the Chinese carrier Sinotrans and Paficic International Lines (PIL) of Singapore are expected to participate as tonnage providers.
More information in the new service launch will be provided in due course.
In the China to Australia market, of the four carriers mentioned above, Yang Ming and Sinotrans already co-operate on the ‘CKA’ China-Korea-Australia loop alongside Hanjin and STX Panocean. Evergreen already offers the Japan-Taiwan-Australia loop ‘NEAX’ where is collaborates with MOL, OOCL, K-Line and NYK, and slots on the ‘Boomerang’ of Maersk, Safmarine and MSC. Meanwhile, PIL is active in this sector via its joint ‘SAS’ service with Coscon and its small-scale standalone USWC-Australia-Asia service.
