Maersk Line is to improve its Libya coverage by participating in Bahari Shipping Line’s Egypt to Libya service. As of early June, the Danish carrier will take slots on the weekly Bahari-service which links the Suez Canal hub of Port Said with Misurata and Benghazi. The service deploys the 1,565 teu THERMAIKOS and the 1,373 teu TARRAGONA. The smaller of these two traded as MAERSK TARRAGONA until very recently, when Maersk Line ended its charter of the vessel.
The new slot-buying will give Maersk Line a third Libya option as it will add to two services which Maersk Line operates itself. Maersk Line already offers a Malta-Benghazi shuttle served by the 1,122 teu JAGUAR and the 864 teu CONCORDIA as well as a Malta-Libya-Tunisia loop, which deploys the 1,118 teu BC HAMBURG and the 1,092 teu ALEXANDER MAERSK.
