MSC make changes to Adriatic – Levant service to add Italian hub

The Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world’s second-largest container carrier, is to add a call at the Mediterranean hub of Gioia Tauro to its Adriatic – Levant service.

The three-week rotation so far offered double calls at Piareus, and even Limassol since February. The 1,879 teu sister vessels trading on the service will now sail straight from Beirut to Gioia Tauro as the new rotation reads:

Venice, Ancona, Ravenna, Piraeus, Limassol, Beirut, Gioia Tauro, Venice.

Maersk Line and Seago Line who were slot buyers on this service are expected to cease their participation at the beginning of June.

MSC has continuously increased its presence at Gioia Tauro, following the acquisition of a partial shareholding in the Italian port’s container terminal by the carrier’s sister company Terminal Investments Ltd in early 2012.
