MOL consolidates Med – West African services

With immediate effect, the Japanase carrier MOL is closing its ‘AR3’ Algeciras – West Africa service and is simultaneously increasing capacity and adding calls to its ‘ARS’.

The ‘AR3’ was employing two vessels on the following 28 day rotation: Algeciras, Cotonou, Lome, Tema, Algeciras.

The 1,347 teu JAMILA, until recently trading for MOL, has been chartered by Lin Lines, a small specialized carrier operating services from Portugal and Spain to Angola and Sao Tome.

The 1,740 HERMANN HESSE is redeployed to MOL’s ‘ARS’, to which fortnightly calls at Cotonou and Lome are added, the two ports being called on alternating sailings. The weekly capacity of the service, on which Zim and Hapag-Lloyd have slots (respectively branding it ‘TAX’ and ‘WMX’), has increased since May 2012, from 1,457 weekly teu, to 1,932 weekly teu as of today.

The three carriers are also partners in a North Europe West Africa service.
